Tatra Waterfalls

Waterfall Skok

Waterfall Skok is a massive waterfall in the middle of the valley Mlynická dolina, well visible from Štrbské pleso. Legend has it that it originated from a girl’s tears, weeping for the loss of a beloved, a poacher who died here, chasing chamois. Close to the waterfall, there is a hiking trail from Štrbské Pleso (yellow marked trail  ), secured by chains of the waterfall. The waterfall falls from a rocky threshold at an altitude of 1789 m. The waterfall is formed by the Mlynica river, which is a tributary of the Poprad river. You can get there all year-round in about 1,5 hours.

Kmeťov waterfall

Kmeťov waterfall falls into valley Nefcerská dolina in Kôprová dolina already in the forest environment. It is created by the creek Nefcerský potok. It is approximately 80 m high and is the highest waterfall in the High Tatras. It bears the name of the well-known Slovak nationalist, botanist and co-founder of the Slovak National Museum in Martin Andrej Kmeť (1841-1908). The author of the title is Miloš Janoška in the First Slovak Guide to the Tatras (Prvý slovenský sprievodca po Tatrách 1911). The waterfall can be reached by Kôprová dolina either from Podbanské along the yellow  , green  and blue  trails or from Tri Studničky along the red  and blue  trails. For hikers it’s closer from Tri Studničky, but for the cyclists we recommend using the route from Podbanské, where the cycling path starts.

Velický waterfall

Večný dážď (literally translated as “Eternal Rain”) is a rocky threshold in Velicka dolina, specific by its veil created by flowing water. It consists of several metres high rocky threshold with overhangs in a part called Kvetnica over which the water flows continuously. It creates a water veil resembling constant drizzle. Večný dážď is accessible by green-marked  trail from a Mountain hotel Sliezsky dom. Just above the “Eternal Rain” is a waterfall Velický vodopád.

Waterfalls and Cascades of Studený Potok

The Waterfalls of Studený potok form a section of Studený potok from the confluence of the creek Veľký Studený potok from the valley Veľká Studená dolina and Malý Studený potok from Malá Studená dolina in close proximity to the former chalet Kamzík, up to the chalet Bilíkova chata, where the waterfalls end. The creek Studený potok flows through a huge terrain break and creates beautiful cascades and cataracts that are especially nice in the spring season when the snow melts or after heavy rains when the water level is high. Below Bilíková chata Studený potok flows through a milder river basin. There are several marked hiking trails along the waterfalls. The waterfalls are a popular tourist place.

Obrovský waterfall is one of the waterfalls which are created by the creek Studený potok and is situated in a valley Malá Studená dolina in 1330m. altitude. It is approximately 20 metres high. The waterfall is accessible by red-marked trail  from Hrebienok. Other waterfalls and cascades of Studený potok are possible to admire on the track from Hrebienok around chalets Bilíkova chata up to Rainerova chata.
